Instructions for Marching Band Chaperones, 2009

Home Games

  • Meet the chaperone coordinator by the community room entrance at BMS to get your chaperone sticker and to gather the things you'll need to help carry into the stadium for the kids who will march into the stadium.
  • Get the coolers out of the trailer, which is parked near where the band sits, and place them at the ends of the rows where the band sits. Please be sure there are cups with the coolers and a trash bag is tied to the cooler.
  • There will be marked seats for the chaperones close to the band.
  • Please come down to the bottom of the bleachers about 10 minutes before the half to help in setting up the sideline equipment and pass out plumes to the band.
  • After the show, the equipment needs to be moved back to the trailer and the plumes should be collected. Give each band member a juice pouch.
  • As you are watching the game:
    • please allow only band members in the band section.
    • Band members should all be playing when the drum major directs them
    • if they need to use the restroom, a chaperon must accompany them to hold jackets, etc. outside the door and to make sure their return to the stands is quick
    • band members must stay in uniform unless they are told otherwise

Away Games

  • Please meet the band at BHS at the designated time.
  • Please be sure a first aide kit, medical forms, plume boxes, and coolers have been loaded.
  • Chaperones should check with the chaperone coordinator for bus assignment.
  • As students are loading the bus, please check with each one to be sure they have black socks, gloves, hat, instrument (and the instrument is actually in the case).
  • Band Captains will call roll on each bus to be sure we have everyone. Please remind them to do so.
  • Please sit in the front of the bus.
  • Please be sure each bus has a cooler, cups, and a trash bag.
  • Upon arrival at the game, please offer each band member a cup of water.
  • Please be sure each band member has black socks, gloves, hat and instrument.

Festivals

  • Arrive at BHS at the designated time.
  • We will need __________ peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to be packed to be given out when we arrive. We have one peanut allergy so make a jelly sandwich and keep his sandwich away from the others. Pack sandwiches in baggies and place in a big Rubbermaid box to be loaded on one of the buses.
  • Prepare a water cooler for each bus with cups and a trash bag. Be sure to give each band member a cup of water when we arrive.
  • Be sure a first aid kit has been loaded in the trailer. Take the BHS Band Chaperone backpack with you on the bus. It should contain bandaides, wipes, germ-x, extra socks and gloves.
  • Be sure an extra hat or two are loaded on the traler along with the plume boxes.
  • Be sure the "Red Bag" has been loaded on the trailer.
  • Pack the rolling coolers with _________bottles of water to be given to the students before they perform.
  • Pack the round coolers with the juice pouches. We will need ________.
  • There is a yellow "girls" bag. Be sure it has been loaded in the trailer.
  • Decide who will take care of the sideline equipment (setting up/dismantling).
  • Be vigilant about PDA. If you see some, please report it to Mr. Pearman.
  • Please report any disrespect to Mr. Pearman immediately.
