BHS Band Awards
J. O. Rowell Award
The J. O. Rowell Award was established in 1977 by the Blacksburg Band Boosters in memory of Jack Rowell who contributed tremendous leadership and service to the band and the booster organization. It is given to the senior, who in the eyes of the band and the band boosters, has exhibited the most outstanding leadership qualities in the BHS Band. Selection is made by the band members.

Bookie Award
The Bookie Award is presented annually to the senior non-officer who contributed the most to the band through personality, dedication, and service. The recipient receives a plaque and has his or her name listed on a permanent plaque. Selection is made by the band members.

LeGette Leadership Award
The LeGette Leadership Award was established in 1992 in honor of Clinton LeGette, former prinicipal of Blacksburg High School. The award is presented annually to the underclassman that has exhibited the most outstanding leadership qualities of the BHS Band. Selection is made by the band director.

Johnson Service Award
The Johnson Service Award was established in 1997 in honor of Jim and Janet Johnson for their many years of dedicated work for the band and booster organization. The award is presented annually to the underclassman that has exhibited outstanding service to the BHS Bands. A certificate and scholarship to marching band camp will be awarded.

David Wolfle Memorial Low Brass Music Award
The David Wolfle Memorial Low Brass Music Award was established in 1986 in memory of David Wolfle. The award is presented annually to a rising sophomore, junior, or senior low brass player who has demonstrated that music is an important part of his or her life. The David Wolfle Award is to be used toward a summer music camp or private lessons for the following school year. Selection is made by the band director.

The Amy Marchman Woodwind Scholarship
The The Amy Marchman Woodwind Scholarship Award is given in memory of Amy Marchman, a BHS Band flutist who died in an auto accident in 1989. The scholarship is presented annually to the woodwind player or players in the marching band who, in the judgment of the marching band director, have shown a love of music and a dedication to the marching band that would most be encouraged by a scholarship to marching band camp.

John Philip Sousa Band Award
The John Philip Sousa Band Award is presented to the outstanding senior musician. Selection is made by the band director.
